Armadillo ARMA-XD: Review
The new ARMA-XD is an Australian born and bred camper trailer that’s built to the highest quality to see you tackling Australia’s unique great outdoors in style and comfort.
When it comes to camper trailers, there is a lot to be said for buying from a local manufacturer. One good reason is that they understand what works and what doesn’t in our tough landscape but, most importantly, they understand why.
Armadillo uses leading Australian products in the trailers because of the nationwide support and service that this delivers: Australian steel for the trailers and locally-made Al-Ko suspension and axles. Case and point, the new Armadillo ARMA-XD is built tough specifically for Australian conditions.
There is a circular ‘port’ in the front right-hand locker which houses the ARMA-XD’s standard Duoetto Electric 12V/240V hot water system. The system can deliver 10L per minute when drawing its power off the camper’s twin 125Ah batteries via its 1500W inverter. This port allows the hot/cold external shower rose to be pulled through and used outside without bathing the electrics in water.
Similarly, you can plug the camper into mains power with just the power cord poking through another port in the adjacent, lockable battery cover.
The ARMA-XD’s standard 160W folding solar panel can also be connected to the batteries through the same port via an Anderson plug and can also be padlocked to the trailer while you’re out exploring. A Redarc battery management system takes care of the charging.
As it’s not required for heating water, the single 4kg gas bottle is sufficient and is located in a locker on the rear right-hand side. There are twin pole carriers just behind the vertical spare wheel and the Ozhitch offroad coupling on the A-frame.
