Ezytrail Lincoln LX: Review
Get off the beaten track in style, with the versatile Ezytrail Lincoln LX.
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
A dual-fold offroad camper, the Lincoln LX’s main body is constructed from 1.2mm-thick zinc galvanised panels and a 100x50x4mm Q345 RHS hot-dipped galvanised drawbar and chassis (with 8mm hangers and 6mm cross members), while the underbody is coated with anti-chip paint. It arrives in Australia in one piece for optimal strength.
The suspension is a fully-adjustable independent coil spring setup with twin shock absorbers, and it has 12in electric brakes and 265/75 R16 AT offroad tyres with 16in six-stud alloy rims.
The fully-welded steel body is resplendently finished in two-pack pearl white baked enamel with black racing stripes and stainless steel trim. It is 590mm deep, providing for plenty of internal storage and easy pack up.
Ezytrail has utilised the latest bamboo flooring, and this accentuates the striking interior. I was also impressed with the extensive exterior/interior lighting arrangement – six round fully submersible LED tail lights; four clearance lights; two toolbox lights; a number plate light; two living room lights; and a kitchen light. There also are two 12V outlets and two USB ports.
Mounted over the trailer roof is a fold-away roof/boat rack, capable of carrying up to 150kg of cargo. The boat loader is secured by over-centre latches and a locating pin. The camper also has a bike rack receiver (50kg limit), and a spare wheel rides on the top at the rear.
With a Tare weight of 1840kg, the Lincoln LX is a heavy camper. But our 2016 Mitsubishi Triton Exceed tow vehicle pulled it along quite effortlessly from Ezytrail’s Melbourne HQ to the Poplars Reserve, 10km out of Noojee in Gippsland’s Loch Valley.
Given its bulk, the Lincoln LX negotiated a myriad of winding turns and steep inclines without resistance surprisingly well. However, its girth (2230mm) caused a few minor issues as we entered the reserve – albeit the entry gates were extremely narrow.
The imported main tent (5620x2000mm) and annexe (5800x2900mm) are made from high quality 450gsm (13.3oz) poly-cotton fine weave canvas and all stress points are double stitched throughout for durability. As the tent opens, a lightweight nylon, UV-resistant tropical roof automatically positions. And there’s also an attachable nylon ensuite room or shower tent (1400x1250mm) that comes with a shower rose and removable floor for additional convenience.
At the front door side of the camper, the whopping fridge slide (605mmx950mmx465mm) provides enough room to fit most fridges up to 85L. And there is automatic lighting when the fridge compartment slides out. There also is a multifunctional two-layer drawer – top (360x315x80mm) and bottom (360x315x180mm) – which is ideal for carrying cooking utensils, plates, non-perishable food and so on.
To the left of the entry door, directly above the pantry, is pole storage which is accessible from both sides. And at the offside rear is a hatch housing the water pump and electrical switch panel. There also are good-sized storage compartments at the offside front.
The stainless steel kitchen includes a four-burner stove, sink and tap, with a pull-out extension. There are additional marine carpeted drawers beneath the bench, plus a little storage around the sink base, and this area has an LED stork light.
THE WRAP UP
Ezytrail’s Lincoln LX offers more than a smattering of comfort and luxury while delivering some serious offroad capability.
As reviewed, this Chinese import, with a hefty Aussie design influence, represents excellent value for money.
The Lincoln LX is ‘ezy’ on the eye and the hip pocket!
