Strong and comfortable, the Van Cruiser Outlaw is a new breeder of caravan.

Called the Outlaw, the new Van Cruiser caravan certainly stands out from the crowd with its meranti timber frame clothed in bright, lime green Alucobond – the aluminium composite cladding Enzo favours for his caravans – and plenty of scratch-resistant checkerplate. And if that doesn’t garner enough attention, the next two Outlaws on the production line are bright blue and orange.

But what really sets the Outlaw apart is its concept and execution. Basically, it’s a tough, compact berth with lots of external storage space and attachments for all kinds of toys. In this case, it’s presented with a 12V motorised rear winch, body bars with fixing points for a roof-mounted boat, and a motorbike stand and a ramp.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

It’s strong and formidable with a 1410kg Tare and riding on a massive 150x50mm A-frame with a DO35 hitch extending from its SupaGal heavy-duty G&S chassis. The rugged Control Rider TS independent suspension with dual shocks and heavy duty coils, 12in offroad electric brakes and 8x16in Primal alloy wheels shod with 265/75 offroad light truck tyres almost suggest the Outlaw will out-survive its tow car in tough terrain.

HITS & MISSES

I liked…

I would have liked…

  • Access to lower cupboards is tricky
  • The wood rack is optional rather than standard
  • No connection for a portable solar panel
  • Optional rear shower hatch could be better located
