How Solar Can Improve Your Travelling Experience

Solar power opens up a whole new world for RVers. Here’s how it makes a huge difference.

Embracing solar power is an important step towards living an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Today, an increasing number of people and businesses have embraced solar power for use in residential and commercial areas. However, there are other ways in which you can use renewable resources to contribute to environmental efforts as well as improve your life. One of them is while travelling in your RV.

Whether you’re camping in the wilderness or taking a road trip to the middle of nowhere

, there are certain things you’ll always need to keep charged. Using electricity supplied by a campground or a generator can lead to more hassle than convenience.

Luckily, these days, advancements in innovation and technology are providing us with more and more ways that solar power can be used while travelling. Solar power has the potential to dramatically improve your travelling experience—here’s how.

How Can Solar Power Be Used While Travelling?

There are a few ways that you can use solar power while travelling. The “old-school” solution, if we may call it that, is standard solar panels. Of course, it depends on how you’re travelling. Most suited for something like an RV, campervan or a trailer of some sort, it’s possible to fit solar panels to your vehicle. This means that whenever you’re on the road or parked outdoors, the panels will be charging up, ready for you to use at your next pitstop.

An alternative, growing in popularity these days, is solar-powered generators. They’re portable, easy to use on the road and compatible with most electronic appliances.

Advantages of Using Solar Power While Travelling

If you’re still on the fence about whether or not it’s worth making the switch to solar power in your RV, here are a few reasons it’s time to take the plunge.

Enjoy the Independence of Not Being Reliant on Electricity

Whether you’re hanging out at a campsite or visiting a remote area, access to electricity isn’t always guaranteed. If you need to work, get onto your laptop, charge your phone, or do anything else that requires power, it can be incredibly frustrating to not have easy access to electricity.

However, if you have your own source of solar power, you never have to be reliant on anybody else. Visiting campsites without electricity is suddenly totally worthwhile, and not having to worry about finding a power source will relieve significant stress from your adventures.

Best of all, if you enjoy going off the grid and travelling to hard-to-reach places, solar power will allow you to do so comfortably and without worries. Now, you can fully embrace the wonders of remote travelling with everything you need, and more.

Say Goodbye to Noise and Air Pollution

If you’ve already been prioritising independence while travelling and attempting to move away from being reliant on other power sources, a traditional generator may have been your first choice. However, they bring several disadvantages.

First off, petrol-fuelled generators are very noisy. Whether you’re sharing a campsite or enjoying a beautiful, secluded spot in nature, the last thing you want is a generator droning in the background. That’s one way to ruin a peaceful getaway!

Second, generators fuelled by petrol are not only bad for the environment—using a non-renewable resource and creating pollution—but they also emit toxic smells. If you’re planning on travelling n your RV for a while, you certainly don’t want to cause such environmental damage. Nor should you consistently be exposed to such harmful emissions.

With a solar-powered generator, you can enjoy a noise-free environment with no smelly gasses – it’s a win-win.

Save Money

Whether you opt for solar panels on your vehicle or a solar-powered generator, you are sure to save money in the long run. Only being able to visit destinations with available electricity will not only limit your options, but it may force you to veer off route unnecessarily.

In addition, it may also limit your options significantly, forcing you to forego free campsites as the more expensive options have what you need for a comfortable stay. The hard truth is that these things add up.

Similarly, constantly having to buy petrol for an old-school generator is sure to get expensive. Additionally, petrol prices are constantly fluctuating, so there’s no way of knowing how much things may cost from one month to the next.

Solar-power alternatives, however, have the potential to be far more cost-effective in the long run. While purchasing a solar-powered generator or panels may be pricey initially, you’re settling for a one-off expense rather than consistent costs that are unpredictable and are sure to add up.

Lower Your Carbon Footprint

Sure, this goes without saying, but these days, we should all be working towards lowering our carbon footprints. With increased innovation and incredible technological advancements that seem to just keep coming, it’s not even that difficult to make the switch.

Embracing solar power no longer needs to be the most expensive alternative. In fact, as we’ve discussed, it even has the potential to save you money these days.

So, if using solar power is cheaper, easier and more convenient, all while being good for the environment too, there’s absolutely no excuse not to consciously lower your carbon footprint.

Allow Solar Power to Improve Your Travel Experience and Save the Environment

Travelling in an RV should really be all about living in the moment and exploring places that appeal to you. These things aren’t always predictable, and when you’re on a driving holiday, it’s important that you’re able to follow your instincts.

If you’re bound to using traditional forms of non-renewable resources for power while you travel, your opportunities are far more limited. You face getting held back by finances, availability and straightforward logistical issues, and a vast number of other possible setbacks.

So, make the switch to solar power, and allow these new methods of using a renewable energy resource make your life and travel experience a whole lot better.
